SEOUL, Korea (June 26, 2018) – World Taekwondo (WT) announced a major structural change and personnel reshuffle, designed to further strengthen the efficiencies within the Federation.
The overall organisation of the Federation will be re-organised under three departments: Sport & Event Management; Member Relations & Development; and Administration & Finance. New policies will also be implemented alongside the restructure, including strengthening good governance within World Taekwondo.
A new Strategic Planning office has been established which will plan World Taekwondo’s strategic roadmap and oversee the implementation of this roadmap across the Federation’s three departments. It will also oversee compliance across the organization, monitor key deliverables within the three departments, and ensure maximum integration between World Taekwondo’s two offices in Seoul and Lausanne. Jerry Ling from Singapore, who was the former Sport Services Director at the organizing committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, and had organized the athletics world championships in Daegu 2011, will return to head the Strategic Planning office. Ling was a member of World Taekwondo from November 2004 to February 2009.
The President’s Office will continue to oversee the president’s activities and related administrative matters. It will also coordinate the Federation’s communications functions. Heesoo Noh will serve as chief of staff for this office.
Led by Eilchul Kim, Administration & Finance department will oversee World Taekwondo’s finances, accounting, HR and domestic relations in Korea.
Led by Jay Lee, Sport & Event Management department will manage all taekwondo and para taekwondo related sporting functions. The department will also be responsible for event operations, medical and anti-doping as well as broadcasting.
Member Relations & Development department will coordinate with the Member National Associations (MNAs) and Continental Unions to oversee development, education and sport-for-all programs and activities. It will be led by Jeongkang Seo.
World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue said:
“We are constantly looking at ways of streamlining our organization to ensure that we are operating as effectively as possible and can provide the best possible service to our athletes, our members and our fans. After undertaking extensive consultation, we are confident that the new structure and reprofiling of roles will best serve the World Taekwondo family going forward. By implementing evaluation criteria and new policies into our systems, we expect to deliver even better outcomes and perform our responsibilities more efficiently.”
